Engine Block Rust and Paint Removal
Protect the machined surfaces, deck and bores by covering with masking tape.
We started using a combination of paint stripper wheels and sand paper to remove the large areas of paint.
Then went to flap wheels to tackle the finer details and get into the hard to reach places.
Wire brushes are great for removing the loose rust and build up in the water galleries.
You also want to very lightly removed the rust and build up around the core plugs so they will seat cleanly when installing.
As we removed material we vacuumed up the dust and rust getting the block ready for cleaning.
In our next article we will hose down, rinse and clean out the entire engine block.
